Hi Lesbian Liberty fans!
Thanks to everyone who made the Time-out Kiss-in action at the game August 2 a success. It was great to see so many signs, hear the cheers, and see the lesbians kissing their lips off!
We got LOTS of press coverage, locally and nationally. The AP wire picked us up and we appeared in papers across the country!
Not so surprisingly, the story got warped a bit: the AP made it sound like we were protesting Father's Day and Black History Month - - as if there are no black lesbians or lesbian parents! In fact, our flyer mentioned Father's Day and Black History Month as an example of the special holidays that the Liberty observes, though they claim that they don't cater to any group. We ask, "Why no Gay and Lesbian Pride Month Celebration?" Leave it to the mainstream press to pit Black history again Lesbian history, as if they aren't intertwined.
For those of you who are interested, we've included a list of all the news stories about the kiss-in. If you know of one which isn't listed here, we'd love to hear about it.
This is just the beginning! We'll be putting the pressure on the Liberty management until they're willing to give up their homophobia. Stay tuned for more info on future actions.
We'll also be sending (in a separate e-mail) the letter to Liberty General Manager Carol Blazejowski for those of you who didn't get a chance to sign it.
