What is a chargeback?
After the Clear Copy Request process, if the cardholder still states that the charge was not made by them, and you have no proof of delivery or authorization in writing, then Visa, MasterCard or American Express will charge back the dollar amount of the transaction.
The Merchant Agreements for Visa/MasterCard/AMEX state that they do not guarantee non-face to face credit card transactions, even though the original transaction was approved. They only guarantee transactions where the merchant saw the card and has a signature on the receipt.
However, our provider will fight for you in these cases and despite the fact that all Internet transactions are non-face to face, the banks are willing to review each chargeback on a case-by-case basis. We have been able to successfully reverse chargebacks based on information we were able to capture about the consumer from our Risk Management System and the merchant.
See our Fraud Prevention Features for details on how LFC's MultiPay service significantly reduces the chance of a chargeback.
