The note beginning "* Private reasons . . . " appears at the foot of the first page of the section of "Poems Written in Youth," beneath "Sonnet — To Science." Here, Poe is not being entirely honest as he has made several modifications to the text of the poems. The main texs for these poems are taken from Al Aaraaf, Tamerlane and Minor Poems, 1829.
