Paul Chen medieval swords like the practical single-hand sword is tailored to the needs of the re-enactor and very affordable. Featuring authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades, these swords are made to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today's re-enactment societies. It features a classically simple hilt, with a permanently-mounted grip and riveted tang for safety. The blade is fullered for balance and features 1/16" edges and a rounded tip. The steel-mounted wooden scabbard is left unfinished for owner customization.
Paul Chen medieval swords like the practical broadswords are all based on authentically styled swords in our collection but they are tailored to meet the needs of re-enactment and stage combat. These medieval swords are very popular and affordable weapons feature authentic hilt styling, with fully tempered un-edged and un-pointed blades. They are designed to withstand rugged use while providing the level of safety required by many of today´s re-enactment societies.
These medieval swords are crafted from 1065 high-carbon steel, hardened to 50HRC, which restricts edge-notching to acceptable levels while providing resilience and protection against brittleness. While these medieval swords are substantial, they are fullered to provide balance and good handling characteristics. They feature 1/16" wide edges and rounded tips for safety. The tangs are also substantial, with radiused corners at the blade shoulders and no welds. The end of the tang is riveted over the pommel, which both eliminates any possibility of inadvertent disassembly. The hardwood grips are leather-covered. The scabbards are fabricated in glass-filled resin, to eliminate swelling and to minimize blade corrosion problems, with belt rings that adjust to allow vertical or horizontal carry. The wood-grain finish is attractive, but most re-enactors will decorate the scabbard to match their persona.
The practical single-hand medieval sword is based on the Marshall sword, so named for one of England´s finest knights of the latter half of the 12th century. These medieval swords are classically styled, with a cruciform hilt, wheel pommel and a ridged-and-fullered blade that is both stiff and surprisingly light. With a weight of less than 2 1/2 lbs., the sword can be wielded forcefully without undue wear and tear on the arm.
